Google has put thousands of newspaper archives on-line and they are
adding more on a daily basis. They have extracted text from page
images using Optical Character Recognition technology and although it may
appear disorganised, should give you the gist of the article or
reference. In a lot of cases, you must become a member of an
information website (somebody had to do the work) although I noticed
that Time magazine was free. Members enjoy access to full size
newspaper images as they were printed and therefore in most cases
experience 100% readability.

be sure you bookmark it as 2 minutes after I accessed it, Google
pulled the link. I guess their servers were being overwhelmed.
What can you find here? Well I did a quick search on 'Ukraine' and
came up with articles dating back to 1764 in the Times of London.
